Research

The music video our group has decided to do is the Black eyed Peas - Where is the love. We have chosen this song as we feel that we can relate many ideas to the song and to many things happening in the world at this time for example wars going, murders etc. We also feel that this song would have a greater impact on our target audience as the Hip Hop/R&B genre are becoming more and more popular with the young generation. One of our ideas for this music was to have a character shoplifting a newspaper from a local petrol station and  he then runs off whilst running past a various bad events happen. He catches a train and starts to realise what hes done is wrong and that there are many other people worse off than him and he then.

What i like about this music video is the use of a continuous combination of both performance and activity throughout the video. For example the use of different uses of everyday items creating a continuous line of motion which builds up to create and different and interesting end to the video and also the use of the band performing whilst all this is going on works well.
What i dislike about this video is that there isn't many varied shots and only focuses on one shot which makes it seem repetitive and quite boring as it carries on, and also the lack of narrative makes the video less effective in some ways.

In this music video i like the use of stop motion throughout the song which i think makes it more effective and interesting, as it can illustrate the lyrics very well and is a potential idea for my music video.
I also like the combination of narrative and performance which makes the video more interesting which is what i plan to do in my music video to make it more appealing.

In this music video i like the use of a canvas to project the main singer which i think is a very interesting idea and can attract a lot of different types of audience members.
What i dislike about this video is that the majority of the video is performance and there is little narrative throughout the video which can make it seem quite boring which is why in my music video i am going to include a even about of both performance and narrative.

I like this video because there is only one person performing each role of the band, this is an effective technique as is a interesting and unique way of illustrating the song and its lyrics. From the pop star theory Dyer proposes that a star is an image not a real person that is constructed out of a range of materials. One of the things I dislike about the video is that there is very little narrative and the majority of the video is performance.

In this music video the majority is narrative which is good because it keeps the audience entertained, I would like the majority of our music video to be narrative. According to the Pop Star theory research I have looked into, stars are constructed, artificial images, even if they are represented as being "real people".

For my music video, I am working with Tom Burley and Ash Scott. Some early ideas that our group had thought of were, the main character walks into a local garage to buy a newspaper, he then realises he doesn't have any money so steals the newspaper and runs out. The owner of the garage then shouts to the police that are nearby and they then chase after him. He then catches a train to a new location where things are not the same and he walks past various bad events happening which starts to play a role on his conscience. He then gets arrested to be then bailed out by a group member of a band which he then joins.

  1. Before this, post about - who you are in a group with, and what early ideas do (did) you have.
