Storyboard and Shot list

This is the first page of our storyboard, we hope to follow the storyboard as best as we can when filming. However I may decide to slightly change some of the shots if there is opportunity for improvement.

Frame 1 is an establishing shot from inside the garage. It will feature the criminal and the shop assistant, and will be a high angle shot, and it will put into black/white using editing software. This will make the shot look like CCTV footage. It will mainly show the criminal entering the garage.

Frame 2 is an over the shoulder shot of the criminal looking at the counter deciding what to buy.

Frame 3 is a close-up of the criminal grabbing the newspaper.

Frame 4 is another close-up of the criminal reaching for his money, but realising he has none. It will be a high angle shot focusing on the criminals trouser pocket.

Frame 5 is another shot from the point of view of the CCTV camera of the criminal running out of the shop, it will use the same effects as the other CCTV style shot.

Frame 6 is a tracking shot of the criminal fleeing from the garage, we will use a tripod to maintain a smooth pan of the camera. To capture the criminals movements.

Frame 7 is a two shot of the criminal and shop assistant. It shows the shop assistant shouting and pointing at the criminal, the shot will be a still shot and will last until the criminal is out of the shot.

Frame 8 will then be another two shot of the criminal and then the protagonist chasing him. The shot will be still with the two actors running towards the camera

Band Permission

We attempted to contact the 'Black Eyed Peas' asking for their permission to make our music video. Unfortunately they did not reply, therefore we assume that they have no issues with us making our video.

Lyrics

Here is the lyrics to my music video which is Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA fightin'
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love, the love, the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
Now ask yourself

Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love?

Sing wit me y'all:
One world, one world (We only got)
One world, one world (That's all we got)
One world, one world
And something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit the wo-wo-world, yeah
We only got
(One world, one world)
That's all we got
(One world, one world)

These are the notes we made on the lyrics of our song Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love

To me the lyrics refers to the fight against racism that took place in many different parts of the world.
At this stage of our music video, we had decided that the video would consist of both narrative and performance throughout it, but narrative mostly dominating the video.

The ideas we had for this stage of the video was to have a character steal a newspaper from a local garage to then be chased by group of angry people. He then catches a train to another location and then witnesses various bad events happening, where the character then starts to feel guilty about stealing and then goes back to the local garage and gives the newspaper back.
Another Idea for this stage of the video was roughly the same but at the end instead of giving the newspaper back the character gets arrested where he is then bailed out by a band member of the group he joins. The reason we came up with the idea of a band member bailing the character out was we felt this would introduce the band member and foreshadows the main character entering the band.

At this stage of the video we felt we would include mostly narrative than performance as we felt a story within the video would create more sympathy to the audience. Also we thought including mostly narrative would introduce and emphasise who the band members are in the video. We have also thought about including mostly performance with many varied shots such as close ups to emphasise the songs lyrics that refers to the fight against racism which we thought would create a more powerful impact on the audience.

Locations

Here is a list of the different locations planned for filming on:

Market Rasen -
Weather - Bright daylight in the Afternoon

  • Petrol Station - The reason we have chosen this location is because this will be the establishing shot where the theft happens. We have chosen it at this location as it has a wide area in which to film different shots and places for the main character to run to after stealing the newspaper.

  • Various streets and alleys - We have chosen various streets and alleys as these create more focus on the character rather than the location itself and these will be where performance shots, narrative parts of the video such as the bad events happening take place.

  • Train Station - We have chosen this location as this will be where the main character boards the train to a different location which emphasises him leaving all the bad things he has done in that area behind him and turning over a new leaf.

  • Inside a train - This will be where the main character will be sat for the journey where various close ups and mid shots will be used to emphasise him reflecting on what he has done and creates a sense of sympathy towards the audience.

  • Police Station - This location is where the main character will be brought after he has been arrested where he is then bailed out by a band member which foreshadows the joining of the band, and the last member then band is needing to complete the band.

Lincoln:
Weather - Gradually getting darker - Evening
  • Train Station - This will be where the main character arrives at the new location, where he starts fresh. We have chosen this location as it a fairly busy train station and a huge area to film in, the busy train station gives the video a sense of realism.

  • High street - We have chosen this location as there are many alleyways leading off from the main high street which will be used to stage the events that the character witnesses. Also we will use various shots of the character walking through the high street to emphasise his journey throughout the video.

Props

Here is a list of the various props we will be using in our music video:
  • Newspaper - This prop is used as the newspaper which will be shoplifted at the very start of the video from a local garage. We chose a newspaper as we felt even though it does not seem much to make a big attention over but then progresses into something worse such as drug dealing.

  • Handcuffs - These will be used to arrest the main character after he has been drug dealing and has been caught, we are using handcuffs as it will create a more realistic approach to the video and creates more impact on the audience.

  • Police Costume - As we were not able to get permission for actual police officers to act in our video we decided to used costumes which will still have create a impact and still keep to the realistic approach.

  • Train Ticket - This is the ticket the main character purchases to travel to a different location, which is then shown in the video being torn up which emphasises to the audience that the characters not going back and his determination to start again.

  • Banners/Signs for the protesters - This will be used by the protesters that act in our video and will be used as one of the events that the character witnesses. The reason we chose banners etc is because we wanted the events to look as real as possible.

  • Cigarette - These will be used by the character which steals the newspaper to emphasise his perhaps dirty habit of smoking and emphasises other habits he has and  his lack of money lost on cigarettes which foreshadows him stealing the newspaper.

Analyse and Evaluation of Target Audience Questionnaire

From this pie chart the results show that only one person rated the importance of a introduction in a music video as ten and that the most common number on the scale chosen was five and seven with two people rating that for each. This shows that the introduction to a music video may not necessarily be that important to our target audience. Our target audience is between the ages of 16-18 as our group feels that the song itself would associate with this age range as this is the younger generation and I feel would have more of a impact on them and the society in which they life and the music genre which is hip hop/R&B would more likely appeal to this age group.

From these results it shows that the most common answer was the internet with 8, next was television with 7 and Itunes with 1. This shows that the internet is one of the easiest ways to consume music videos and to be distributed easily and faster with the internet becoming increasingly better and faster.
These results show that varied shots, shots of the performer and artists singing were the most common answers from the question what do you expect to see in a music video. This is vital to us and helps make our decisions in deciding what to add to our music video. From these results we know to add lots of varied sots, shots of the performer and artists singing to make it more appealing to our target audience.

These results show that the most common answer was for 4-7 times a day for the question how many pop videos do you watch a day.
From this it shows that the most popular genre of music is acoustic. This means that will we have to make it more appealing towards that genre in order to interest the audience.

From these results are target audience would possibly be higher in males than in females. These results show that 7 out of the 10 participants where male and 3 where female. This may help in deciding what our music video is about that will appeal to both genders
These results show that 100% of the participants that took part in the questionnaire were aged 16-18, therefore this will be our target audience as it relates more to the younger generation and will more likely appeal to this age range.
